The work was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, undoubtedly one of the most prestigious architects on the planet today. For his shape, he took into account two referents fromCatalonia. First of all, it was based on the drawings made by the greatAntoni Gaudíat the beginning of the 20th century for a project in which he proposed a skyscraper in the American city ofNew York. And on the other hand, he was also inspired by the peculiar jagged shapes of the rocks of the Sierra de Montserrat.

That is why it has a shape that reminds us of a pinnacle, which has also been related to the towers of the Sagrada Familia. However, there are other less cultural references that haveprovoked much less elegant popular denominations that have to do with suppositories or the male virile member.

The entire structure of the tower is based on two non-concentric oval cylinders, both made of concrete, like the entire structure of the building. While aluminum and glass are used for the visible façade. Along these cylinders, 38 floors unfold, four of them underground, which curiously only two of them are used for vehicle parking, while the other two are auditoriums with a capacity for more than 300 people.

As for the other 34 floors, practically all of them are destined for offices, except for three that are needed as technical spaces for the control of all the installations, as well as the last ones are a cafeteria and an elevated viewpoint over the city of Barcelona.

The futuristic forms of the Agbar Tower are enhanced at night, when the entire length and curved shape of the building is covered by highly attractive changing light effects. By the way, the energy efficiency criteria applied to this construction means that all this lighting, despite what it may seem, is not a waste, on the contrary, light is really low cost. It is undoubtedly an urban milestone, whose presence in the vital Avenida Diagonal marks the entrance to the most technological area of Barcelona, the so-called [email protected] District.
