The truth is that in Vicenza, a thriving city in the mid-sixteenth century, there was a group of great men, 21 in particular and among whom was Palladio, who in the In 1555 they founded the Olympic Society. That exclusive club met in cafes, but one day they decided to acquire a plot of land to build a theater. That was the germ of the Olympic Theater, whose project evidently fell to Palladio.

It was the year 1579, and although it was not known then the architect was going to die the following year. However, he gave him time to carry out the general plan of the work. As always, he turned to the works of Antiquity as a reference, and of course one of the reasons for his inspiration was the great amphitheater of the Arena in Verona, a city near Vicenza.

When Palladio died in 1580 all the plans were already done and a model of the whole work was madewhich has not survived to this day. So with that, a local architect who logically was the main disciple of Andrea Palladio executed the work. It is about Vicenzo Scamozzi (1548 – 1616) who knew how to follow all the master's instructions to build his imposing façade or the previous gardens.

Actually, he followed the project almost to the letter. But instead he had much more freedom when it came to posing the impressive setting where there seem to be streets from ancient times that lead into the scene.

This is an incredible piece of machinery, truly architectural. The basic concept is that it chooses a very high focal point of the viewer in order to have the optical illusion of much longer streets. In other words, it is a treatise on architectural perspective where he plays with the descending size of the facades as they move away from the public. Therefore, it is not a more or less flat bottom like the one in the Roman theatres that have survived to our days, such as the one in the Hispanic city of Emerita Augusta.

He is a paragon of mastery, and above all Scamozzi managed to outperform his master, since there is continuity between the creations of both, and above all he does it with some forms completely classic ones that Palladio liked so much.
