Both are memorials to American presidents, but while the Jefferson memorial is easily identifiable as an architectural work, in the case of the Franklin memorial D. Roosevelt is not that simple. It has some architecture, but a lot of sculpture and especially landscaping.

In fact, it is a monument that occupies about 30,000 square meters and was inaugurated relatively recently, in 1997. A work in which many artists and from different disciplines logically took part.

All this to honor one of the most beloved American presidents: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who ruled from 1933 to 1945. That is, during the World War II and during a period of more than two presidential terms, since he won the elections four times.

The Memorial is of course inspired by the life and deeds of this character, but in reality it tells us about a wholetime and how the population saw its ruler. Which was followed by his radio speeches. And even in an area of the memorial that scene is raised, in which it is captured how their famous fireside chat was heard with devotion.

Another iconic scene from theGreat Depressionduring which he began to rule is also depicted. It is called Depression Breadline, a sculptural group of five people waiting hungry in the bread line.

In total, the entire monument is divided into four different spaces, each dedicated to the four periods of his rule. In these areas you can see, for example, a series of waterfalls, whose development is becoming increasingly complex, as was the case with the policies and situations experienced by the president.

His wife helped himEleanor Rooseveltwhose statue also appears in a scene linking her to the UN. And of course, there is also the statue of the president himself. A statue that had to be modified in 2001, since initially he was not shown in the wheelchair that he used in life. So the handicapped associations protested and the image had to be changed, so that today he is seen prostrate in that chair and also in the company of his dog.
