The case of the Swiss artist Emma Kunz (1892 – 1963) is very curious within the history of contemporary art of the 20th century. To begin with, because in life she was considered more of a healer than anything else. Although this woman liked to classify herself as a scientist. And yet, now in the 21st century, the most appreciated thing in her life is her drawings turned into her art. Something that somehow, she already predicted saying that those drawings would be understood long after her death.
Typical Emma Kunz drawing
The truth is that Emma Kunz never received art, nor did she have a family background. In fact her parents were weavers. And the only thing that she manifested from a very young age is that she had extrasensory perceptions. That, with the passage of time, made her dedicate herself to healing people, for which she used natural remedies of plant and mineral origin.
But she also delved into matters of philosophy and spiritualism, which led him to create the famous drawings of her. Which she understood as the embodiment of the energies of the mind. For the most part they are built from a pendulum, which with its dowsing movement generates base lines. Some lines that, according to her approach, end up shaping the energy fields.

That applied to the patients, since they were sessions in which she asked them questions, andthe pendulum seemed to alter its movements according to the responses, moods or problems of the interviewees. Somehow she visualized all those lines inspired by the pendulum and gave them color. It is as if she entered a trance state, as the end result was amazing. However, she was not so much for an aesthetic use as a medicinal one, since the drawings she later used to make her diagnoses
The truth is that everything in these types of images is organized by mathematics and geometry. No doubt they are kind of western mandalas. She bequeathed us about four hundred drawings, which have been studied by scientists from different speci alties. Like doctors, geologists or physical therapists, they have studied in depth the rock powder that she used so much in her healing.
And today, just as she predicted, her work is exhibited in museums and exhibitions are organized for her. In fact, it was not the only prediction of hers. It is said that she did many others and with success, such as talking about the ozone hole, or the creation of the atomic bomb by the US army.
